Another day in the life...
I'm clearly not vain enough, since this vanity site doesn't get updated often enough ;o)
Anyway, it's really just here as something to point people to who want to know who I am and what I do (the lazy response to 'can I have your bio' requests). With that in mind...
A lot of my time is currently taken up by Steel Media, working on Pocket Gamer and its spin-off magazine, the mobile entertainment focused Pocket Picks blog, plus some exciting new projects.
But I'm also still writing for Music Ally, doing their daily digital music news bulletin, and contributing the odd article to their fortnightly industry report. I'm also writing the Virtual Worlds Forum blog, covering the virtual worlds industry.
And I'm doing some work on the emerging social games space, including some stuff with UK firm Playfish (you should play their Facebook games Who Has The Biggest Brain?, Word Challenge and Bowling Buddies, by the way. But only if you have no work to do).
Plus there's as-and-when features on the mobile industry for New Media Age and Mobile Media, consumery stuff for Mobile Choice magazine, and other freelance pieces.
In summary though, my areas are now:
- mobile games
- mobile entertainment (both industry and consumer)
- social games (e.g. Facebook)
- digital music
- virtual worlds
- consumer technology / gadgets
And I'm in the very early stages of setting up a couple of personal blogs, one of which will focus on music, and the other on Dad stuff. Anyway, this is a summary of what's going on.
I'm not the editor of Tech Digest any more - I stepped down to take on more work with Steel Media. But the folks at Shiny Media (who publish Tech Digest) are marvellous, and I owe them hugely for getting me into this whole blogging lark in the first place. The new editor is Katherine Hannaford, who is one of THE most talented bloggers in the UK, so the site's on the up.
Anyway, just to finish off, here's some stuff I wrote today:
For Pocket Gamer... this review of Playman Summer Games 3, a jammy Flickr tip-off scoop on a new Transformers mobile game, and news stories on THQ Wireless' latest revenues, a new online payment system for mobile content, a smartphone game called Hidden Expedition: Titanic, and a mobile game based on a DreamWorks film that's not coming out till 2010.
For Pocket Picks... a bunch of stories including one on a camouflage phone, one wildly speculating on whether the 3G iPhone will be white, a crazy-cool concept EGG phone, and a confused post about whether O2 has sold out of the iPhone or not.
For the Virtual Worlds Forum blog... a story on a Republican congressman who wants to ban Second Life from schools and libraries, another one on the Fresbo World virtual world that's launched in Facebook, and a story on Playboy's possible ambitions in the virtual worlds space.
That is all.
